Arlington (AUS)
Gr1-performed Arlington is from a sensational family

(Red Ransom-Savannah Success, Success Express)
Stands 2016 at Tamalee Farm, NSW, for $4,400

Sire of his first winner in August when betting ring plunge horse Little Arli scored at Canberra over 1000m, Arlington is a Gr1-performed half-brother to a Cox Plate-winning Champion Sire.  Breeders who can’t afford Savabeel’s much deserved lofty fee can access Arlington for a fraction of the price. This is real value, right here.

Arlington was a $1.55 million yearling thanks to his exemplary pedigree and stunning looks. His half-brother, Savabeel, won a Cox Plate as a 3YO, and his dam, Savannah Success, was a dual Gr1-winning Oaks filly. His own sire, Red Ransom, is one of our best in recent times. Arlington’s already impressive pedigree had a massive upgrade recently when Black Heart Bart (Blackfriars) won the Gr1 Goodwood Stakes and finished a close second in the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap despite carrying top-weight. Black Heart Bart is a son of Savannah Success’s city winning half-sister Sister Theresa (At Talaq). The success of Black Heart Bart, and Savabeel’s stud career highlight how well this family crosses with sons of Danehill.

Arlington was precocious as a juvenile, first racing as an October 2YO, and was stakes-placed at just his second start. As a 3YO, Arlington ran third in the Gr1 Randwick Guineas to Horse of the Year Weekend Hussler, and as an older horse, Arlington picked up group placings in the Gr2 Japan-New Zealand International Trophy and Gr3 Tauranga Stakes (behind multiple Gr1 winner Sir Slick). He also has three Listed placings to his credit (two of those in his 2YO season). Arlington proved on the track that he was tough, and talented, having 54 starts over six seasons for five wins.

Arlington’s oldest crop are 2YOs, and he has already produced a city class placegetter from only six foals to race. Like his illustrious brother, Arlington’s pedigree and race record suggests his progeny are going to furnish into exceptional 3YOs over journeys at a mile and plus.

  • Timely Boost for Twin Hills Stud's Bobby's Kitten

    Mon, 14 Aug 2017

A prolific source of high class horses, Kitten's Joy is by El Prado, sire of Medaglia d'Oro and Artie Schiller who have both enjoyed plenty of success in Australia. Bobby's Kitten will stand his debut season at Twin Hills at a fee of $16,500.

  • Scottish to Lead Godolphin Team

    Fri, 11 Aug 2017

Scottish will head the Godolphin string for trainer Charlie Appleby at this year's spring carnival in Melbourne, reports theinformant.co.nz. Appleby has nominated races such as the Gr1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on 14 October, the Gr1 Cox Plate (2040m) on 28 October, and the Gr1 Emirates Stakes (2000m) on 11 November as potential targets for the 5YO. "Nothing is set in stone. We'll leave all the options open as long as possible," Appleby said. "But Scottish will lead a strong Godolphin team into Melbourne, all going well, and will be very competitive." Appelby added: "He has one of the eight invitations issued for the Cox Plate, and we nominated him for the race this week." Scottish showed his quality when resuming from a long break with a creditable fifth behind Highland Reel in the Gr1 Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot.

  • Highland Reel Wins Gr1 Prince of Wales's Stakes

    Thu, 22 Jun 2017

On day two of the famous Royal Ascot carnival in the UK, former Coolmore shuttler and triple Gr1-winning champion European sire Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) celebrated an elite race trifecta when remarkable 5YO Irish-bred entire Highland Reel (Galileo-Hveger, by Danehill) put up a typically tough and brave performance to score by 1.25 lengths for trainer Aidan O’Brien and jockey Ryan Moore in the £750,000 Gr1 Prince of Wales's Stakes (2000m) 4YO+, defeating Decorated Knight (Galileo) & Ulysses (Galileo). In claiming his sixth Group One triumph, the globe-trotting star improved his record to 9 wins (including the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Turf, Gr1 Coronation Cup, Gr1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Gr1 Hong Kong Vase, Gr1 Arlington Secretariat Stakes, Gr2 Vintage Stakes and Gr3 Gordon Stakes) & 7 placings (including the Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Gr1 Juddmonte International Stakes, Gr1 Cox Plate, Gr1 Prix du Jockey Club & Gr2 Hardwick Stakes) from 23 starts for nearly £6 million in earnings. Highland Reel is out of the Gr1-placed Australian mare Hveger (Danehill), a full-sister to multiple Gr1 winner Elvstroem and a half-sister to fellow multiple Gr1 scorer Haradasun from Australian Oaks heroine Circles Of Gold. This is also the family of brilliant young sire Starspangledbanner and Golden Slipper winner Polar Success. "He's unbelievably courageous. It's what his dad had that made him different to every other horse we've had, and he has it tenfold,” trainer Aidan O’Brien told Racing Post. "He's passed every test you would want a thoroughbred to go through, from the time he was two. He has turned up in big races and we've travelled everywhere with him. He's an amazing horse.”

  • Shinn to Embark on US Sojourn

Ward has trained top-class gallopers such as last year's champion European 2YO filly Lady Aurelia, Gr1 Prix Morny winner No Nay Never, Gr1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint winner Judy The Beauty, Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner Hootenanny, and Gr1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes winner Undrafted.

  • No Reserve Arlington Yearlings At Tamalee Farm

    Fri, 12 May 2017

Following an exceptional season with his first crop of 3YOs, where 10 individuals have won already, emerging sire Arlington (Red Ransom-Savannah Success, by Success Express) is the subject of a private yearling sale at Tamalee Farm, near Tamworth, on Sunday, May 21. "It's a no reserve sale," notes former STC Chairman Bruce McHugh, also Tamalee Farm principal, and managing owner of Arlington. He is confident that the 12 well-pedigreed yearlings on offer will find plenty of interest from owners and trainers, providing them with genuine value at modest prices. A Gr1-placed $1.55 million half-brother to multiple champion sire Savabeel, and closely related to Gr1 star Black Heart Bart, Arlington is stamping his progeny with his own impressive physique (see Lot 2 from the sale below). "The exciting thing," acknowledges McHugh, "is that each year the quality of mares Arlington gets has improved, and with the success of his progeny this year it is going to be even better in 2017." The sale starts at 11am. Click here for more information.

  • Arlington Breaks Into Double Figures

    Fri, 28 Apr 2017

With 3 months of the current racing season still to run, emerging second crop sire Arlington (Red Ransom-Savannah Success, by Success Express) has sired his 10th individual winner for 2016-17. Joining the other 9 winners from Arlington’s first crop, Arlington Heights went one better than his previous start’s 2nd placing when scoring convincingly over 1700m at Grafton earlier this week. Much like his Cox Plate-winning and NZ Champion Sire half-brother Savabeel did with his early crops, Arlington’s progeny are coming into their own as they mature and tackle longer distances. A 2YO-winning, Gr1 placed 3YO, & $1.55 million Magic Millions yearling, now starting to attract better class mares following his first crop’s success and the continuing feats of close relation Black Heart Bart, Arlington will stand for $6,600 inc GST at Tamalee Farm in 2017.

  • Black Heart Bart Wins Gr1 Futurity Stakes

    Mon, 27 Feb 2017

At Caulfield racecourse in Melbourne, Scenic Lodge's VRC Derby-winning sire Blackfriars (Danehill-Kensington Gardens, by Grosvenor) celebrated an elite success when 6YO gelding Black Heart Bart (Blackfriars-Sister Theresa, by At Talaq) scored by 0.1 length for trainer Darren Weir in the $500,000 Gr1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) for 3YO+, over 6YO Japanese-bred entire and stable-mate Tosen Stardom (Deep Impact-Admire Kirameki, by End Sweep) & 7YO New Zealand-bred gelding Ecuador (High Chaparral-Bak da Princess, by Danske). This was the fifth top-flight victory for former West Australian-trained galloper Black Heart Bart who advanced his outstanding record to 16 wins (including the Gr1 C.F. Orr Stakes, Gr1 Underwood Stakes, Gr1 Memsie Stakes, Gr1 Goodwood, Gr2 Lee Steere Stakes, Gr3 Victoria Handicap, Gr3 WATC Northerly Stakes, Listed Birthday Stakes, Listed Bunbury Stakes, Listed Pinjarra Classic, Listed Cyril Flower Stakes, Listed WATC Carbine Club of WA Stakes & Listed WATC Summer Scorcher) and 14 placings (including the Gr1 Caulfield Stakes, Gr1 Makybe Diva Stakes, Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap, Gr1 Newmarket Handicap, Gr1 All Aged Stakes & Gr3 WATC Asian Beau Stakes) from 39 starts for $3,420,950 earnings. "He's just a great horse. Yeah five Group Ones, he's just an unbelievable horse," trainer Darren Weir told Racing.com. "I thought Tosen Stardom was going to win there at one stage but gee, he just keeps coming Black Heart Bart, you wouldn't want him chasing you. What a horse." Black Heart Bart, who was sold for $20,000 at the 2012 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale, is out of a half-sister to New Zealand Oaks winner Savannah Success, dam of Cox Plate winner and outstanding young stallion Savabeel and Gr1-placed Tamalee Farm stallion Arlington.

  • Arlington's Early Stats Compare Favourably

    Fri, 17 Feb 2017

Meanwhile, the victory by Arlington's eighth individual winner, The Lion, in last Friday's prestigious Walcha Maiden highlights the extent to which the career of the close relation to Black Heart Bart is emulating the slow burn path of his half-brother Savabeel, multiple Champion Sire of New Zealand. Both Arlington and Savabeel are out of a dual Gr1-winning half-sister to the dam of Black Heart Bart (see above item). Current runaway NZ leader again in 2016-17, Gr1 Cox Plate hero Savabeel's status as a champion sire has taken time to embed, a characteristic that Gr1-placed Arlington appears to have inherited, with the latter's progeny displaying the same signs that they will improve with time. Other prominent sires who took a little time to come to prominence with their juveniles include exceptional stallions Written Tycoon and Not A Single Doubt, the latter siring his first stakes-winner when his his eldest crop were 4YOs. The status quo augurs well for Arlington whose first crop are current 3YOs, particularly as the bulk of his progeny are only just starting to come into their own.

Black Heart Bart cemented his status as one of the best racehorses in Australia and in the process boosted his already outstanding record to 15 wins (including the Gr1 Underwood Stakes, Gr1 Memsie Stakes, Gr1 Goodwood, Gr2 Lee Steere Stakes, Gr3 Victoria Handicap, Gr3 WATC Northerly Stakes, Listed Birthday Stakes, Listed Bunbury Stakes, Listed Pinjarra Classic, Listed Cyril Flower Stakes, Listed WATC Carbine Club of WA Stakes & Listed WATC Summer Scorcher) and 14 placings (including the Gr1 Caulfield Stakes, Gr1 Makybe Diva Stakes, Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap, Gr1 Newmarket Handicap, Gr1 All Aged Stakes & Gr3 WATC Asian Beau Stakes) from 38 starts for $3,118,950 earnings. He's in great shape, so it's only racing that will improve him now." The Gr1 Gr1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) will be run at Caulfield on 25 February. Black Heart Bart, who was sold for $20,000 at the 2012 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale, is out of a half-sister to New Zealand Oaks winner Savannah Success, dam of Cox Plate winner and outstanding young stallion Savabeel and Gr1-placed Tamalee Farm stallion Arlington.

  • Arlington To Serve Through January

    Mon, 19 Dec 2016

Following his 6th individual winner this season, last Friday in Scone, emerging young stallion Arlington (Red Ransom-Savannah Success, by Success Express) will continue actively serving through January 2017 at Tamalee Farm, an hour north of Scone. A Gr1-placed 3YO half-brother to Gr1 Cox Plate hero and multiple Champion Sire Savabeel, as well as closely related to Black Heart Bart, Arlington's progeny are starting to come into their own as they mature and step up towards a mile. • Gr1 Ambitions For Former US Galloper

    Fri, 18 Nov 2016

Trainer Chris Waller will use Saturday's November Topaz (1900m) at Rosehill as a guide to the autumn prospects of former US galloper Closing Bell, reports racenet. Closing Bell, by dual champion North American sire Tapit, made an encouraging Australian debut when a luckless sixth behind the promising Fabrizio in the Listed Cup Day Plate (1800m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day. Part-owned by high profile Hunter Valley stud Newgate Farm, Closing Bell (Tapit-Rehear, by Coronado's Quest) boasts some excellent US credentials, including a fourth place finish in last year's Gr1 Belmont Derby and runner-up to the world-class Highland Reel in the Gr1 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington. Waller says the plan is to win a major race with the 5YO before he retires to stud. "His first run in Australia was good, he didn't have a lot of luck," Waller said. "I would just like him to have one more run and then work out where he fits into the autumn." He added: "He's by a very good stallion. We'd like to prepare him for a serious attempt at a Group One race at some stage in Sydney and if not in Queensland. Probably around the 2000 metre distance."

  • Port Double For Arlington

    Mon, 14 Nov 2016

Emerging Tamalee Farm stallion Arlington (Red Ransom-Savannah Success, by Success Express) continued his strong start to the 2016-17 racing season when 3YO daughters Fast Arli (Arlington-Fasting, by Anabaa) & Magic Arli (Arlington-Firefly Magic, by Magic Albert) scored a double at Port Macquarie late last week. It was Fast Arli's second win from her past three starts, while Magic Arli brought her maiden victory up at her second start, having placed on debut. The success for 3YO Gr1-placed Arlington coincides with the continuing success of his half brother Savabeel who is on track to make it a hat-trick of NZ Champion Sire Premierships, with his 2016-17 progeny earnings almost double that of his nearest rival.

  • Highland Reel Wins Gr1 Breeders' Cup Turf

    Mon, 7 Nov 2016

At Santa Anita Park in the US, former Coolmore shuttler and triple Gr1-winning champion European sire Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) celebrated an elite success when 4YO Irish-bred entire Highland Reel (Galileo-Hveger, by Danehill) scored a bold front-running 1.75 length win for trainer Aidan O'Brien in the US$4 million Gr1 Breeders' Cup Turf (12 furlongs) for 3YO+, over 6YO UK-bred entire Flintshire (Dansili-Dance Routine, by Sadler's Wells) & 4YO mare and stable-mate  Found (Galileo-Red Evie, by Intikhab). In claiming his 4th victory at Gr1 level, Highland Reel advanced his record to 7 wins (including the Gr1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Gr1 Hong Kong Vase, Gr1 Arlington Secretariat Stakes, Gr2 Vintage Stakes and Gr3 Gordon Stakes) & 6 placings (including the Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Gr1 Juddmonte International Stakes, Gr1 Cox Plate, Gr1 Prix du Jockey Club & Gr2 Hardwick Stakes) from 19 starts for a remarkable A$11.9 million in earnings. "We know that he handles fast ground. He doesn't mind dictating. He doesn't mind sitting in. So it was straightforward, really," trainer Aidan O'Brien told Blood Horse. "But Seamus executed it brilliant. He was very happy to make the run, and when he did, he controlled the race perfectly." Highland Reel is out of Australian-bred Gr1-placed Hveger, a full-sister to dual hemisphere Gr1 Champion Elvstroem and a half-sister to dual hemisphere Gr1 winner Haradasun.
