At Morphettville in Adelaide, Darling View Thoroughbreds' Gr1 Caulfield Guineas winning stallion Econsul (Pins-Gypsy Soul, by Centaine) celebrated his first top-flight success when 6YO mare Precious Gem (Econsul-Gem of Gems, by Peintre Celebre) scored by 0.1-length for trainer Henry Dwyer in the $400,000 Gr1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) for 3YO+ f&m, over 4YO mare Sheidel (Holy Roman Emperor-Laventour, by Metal Storm) & 5YO mare I Love It (Artie Schiller-Not That Innocent, by Foxhound). Precious Gem took her record to 8 wins (including the Listed MRC Anniversary Vase) & 10 placings (including the Gr2 Let's Elope Stakes, Gr3 Eliza Park International Stakes & Listed Hareeba Stakes) from 35 starts for $660,400 earnings. Trainer Henry Dwyer said he still intends on taking Precious Gem north for the Queensland winter carnival, despite the newly crowned Gr1 winner being entered in next month's Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale (1st to 5th June). "There's a few options for her. The race I had in mind was the Glenlogan Park Stud Stakes but she's meant to go through the sales on June 1st," Dwyer told Sky Racing. "We've nominated for the Stradbroke and the Tatt's Tiara [both Gr1 races]. I'm pretty sure she will still go through the ring, so it's a chance for someone to buy a mare going to Group One races and a chance in them." Precious Gem (Lot 528) - who hails from the Betty Box (IRE) family of VRC Derby winner Hit The Roof, Gr1 Railway Handicap winner Alynda, and Gr3 winning sire Fast 'N' Famous - is set to go through the sale ring on the opening day of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on Wednesday 1st June.
