At Morphettville in Adelaide, Arrowfield Stud's multiple Champion Australian Sire Redoute's Choice (Danehill-Shantha's Choice, by Canny Lad) celebrated an elite success when 3YO colt Howard Be Thy Name (Redoute's Choice-Bellini Rose, by Faltaat) scored by 0.5-length for trainer Darren Weir in the $500,000 Gr1 South Australian Derby (2500m) for 3YOs, over fellow 3YO colt Etymology (New Approach-Weaver of Words, by Danehill) & 3YO gelding Cool Chap (High Chaparral-Cherishing, by Johannesburg). Howard Be Thy Name, a $245,000 Arrowfield Stud pass-in at the 2014 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, took his record to 5 wins (including the Gr3 SAJC  Chairman's Stakes & Listed Port Adelaide Guineas) and 6 placings (including the Listed Tasmanian Derby) from 11 starts for $524,090 earnings. The well related Howard Be Thy Name will now bid to make it a classic double when he heads north for the Gr1 Queensland Derby (2200m) at Eagle Farm on 11 June. "He'll be straight on the plane and go to Brisbane and have a crack at the Derby up there," stable foreman Jarrod McLean told Racing.com. As a direct descendant of the Vice Regal mare Richebourg, Howard Be Thy Name hails from the same female family as multiple Group winner and Gr1 placegetter Romanee Conti, Melbourne and Caulfield Cup heroine Ethereal, Australasian Oaks winner Grand Echezeaux, and 5-time Gr1-winning sire Darci Brahma.
