At Royal Randwick in Sydney, Darley's deceased shuttler & Gr1 Dubai World Cup winner Street Cry (Machiavellian-Helen Street, by Troy) celebrated Gr1 success when richly talented 4YO mare Winx (Street Cry-Vegas Showgirl, by Al Akbar) unleashed her trademark explosive turn of foot to score by 2.3-lengths for trainer Chris Waller in the $1 million Gr1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) for 3YO+, over 6YO gelding Ecuador (High Chaparral-Bak da Princess, by Danske) & 5YO gelding Sons Of John (Oratorio-Mountain Echo, by Scenic). Winx took her record to 8 wins (including the Gr1 Queensland Oaks, Gr2 Theo Marks Stakes, Gr2 Phar Lap Stakes & Gr2 Furious Stakes) and 3 placings (including the Gr1 Australian Oaks & Gr1 Flight Stakes) from 14 starts for $1,779,925 earnings. Trainer Chris Waller was non committal about whether Winx would head to Melbourne for the Gr1 Cox Plate on 24 October, but seemed to indicate the race was a possibility. "She will be off to Melbourne," Waller said. "There will be a nice race for her down there. It is easy to talk Cox Plates, but we will get today out of the way and be realistic at some time." Winx, from the dual stakes-winning New Zealand mare Vegas Showgirl, was a $230,000 purchase by Magic Bloodstock at the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Coolmore Stud.
