At Caulfield in Melbourne, Yarraman Park's Gr3-winning & 4-time Gr1-placed stallion Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock-Snippets' Lass, by Snippets) celebrated a Gr1 success when 3YO colt Press Statement (Hinchinbrook-Kaaptive Empress, by Kaaptive Edition), a half-brother to Gr1 winner Pressday (Domeday), scored by 1.75-lengths for trainer Chris Waller in the $1 million Gr1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) for 3YOs, over fellow 3YO colts Lizard Island (Sebring-Bourgogne, by Choisir) & Ready For Victory (More Than Ready-Crillon, by Zabeel). Press Statement, who races for a prominent group of owners including Vinery Stud, China Horse Club Racing & Raffles Thoroughbred Racing, took his record to 5 wins (including the Gr1 JJ Atkins Stakes & Gr2 Stan Fox Stakes) and 1 placing from 7 starts for $1,278,275 earnings. Trainer Chris Waller said it was unlikely that Press Statement would run in the Cox Plate in two weeks time, but said a final decision would be made on Tuesday or Wednesday. "I'd say he's a 20 percent chance," Waller told Racing.com. "The good part is, there's no pressure from the owners. If I think it's in the best interests of the horse he'll be there, but if it's not then he won't." He added: "There's no harm in putting him away and coming back and trying to win multiple Group 1 races in autumn."
