At Riccarton Park in New Zealand, The Oaks Stud's 5-time Gr1-winning & 5-time Gr1-placed stallion Darci Brahma (Danehill-Grand Echezeaux, by Zabeel) celebrated an elite Gr1 success when 3YO filly Risque (Darci Brahma-So Explicit, by Straight Strike) scored by 1.25-lengths for trainers Stephen Autridge & Jamie Richards in the NZ$300,000 Gr1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas (1600m) for 3YO fillies, over fellow fillies Strada Cavallo (Alamosa-Abenroad, by Danroad) & Dezzies Dream (Coats Choice-Sparkling All Over, by Prized). The victory capped a stunning week for trainers Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards and jockey Matt Cameron who combined seven days ago to capture the Gr1 NZ 2000 Guineas with top colt Xtravagant, reports NZ Racing Desk. Risque is raced by Dick Karreman's The Oaks Stud, whose racing manager Rick Williams sent the filly to Te Akau's Matamata stable with a message. "When we got her Rick said 'this is the horse' and we were fortunate he gave her to us," Autridge said. "After a while we knew in the back of our minds that she would be special and she's proved it. It's been an unbelievable seven days." Williams added: "We won this race 10 years ago with Seachange and we've had a few placings since so it's terrific, a big thrill for Dick and Darci Brahma." Risque took her record to 3 wins (including the Listed Armadillo Stakes) and 2 placings from 6 starts for NZ$233,725 earnings.
