At Royal Randwick in Sydney, unbeaten European Champion juvenile & dual Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Teofilo (Galileo-Speirbhean, by Danehill) celebrated a Gr1 triumph when 4YO entire Kermadec (Teofilo-Hy Fuji, by Fuji Kiseki) scored by 0.5-length for trainer Chris Waller in the $500,000 Gr1 George Main Stakes (1600m) for 3YO+, over 6YO mare and stable-mate Royal Descent (Redoute's Choice-Mulan Princess, by Kaapstad) & 5YO French-bred gelding Pornichet (Vespone-Porza, by Septieme Ciel). Kermadec, who was purchased for NZ$260,000 by Guy Mulcaster Bloodstock at the 2013 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Wentwood Grange, took his record to 4 wins (including the Gr1 Doncaster Mile & Gr3 Carbine Club Stakes) and 4 placings (including the Gr1 George Ryder Stakes & Gr2 Chelmsford Stakes) from 11 starts for $2,577,025 earnings. Trainer Chris Waller confirmed Kermadec was on track for the Gr1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on 24 October. "He was strong the last 200m and that was good heading towards a Caulfield Stakes and Cox Plate," Waller told Sky racing. "He's a colt, he's a Doncaster winner, he's lightly-raced and if we can get one of those big ones in Melbourne, he's a very valuable horse." He added: "If he's trained right, he'll win it."
