At Royal Randwick in Sydney, Cambridge Stud's dual Gr1-winning stallion Tavistock (Montjeu-Upstage, by Quest For Fame) celebrated an elite success when 3YO gelding Tavago (Tavistock-Sara Ann, by Stravinsky) scored a surprise 3.3-length win at odds of 47-1 for trainers Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young in the $2 million Gr1 Australian Derby (2400m) for 3YOs, over 3YO filly Jameka (Myboycharlie-Mine Game, by General Nediym) & 3YO colt Tally (Street Cry-Itemise, by Kris S). Tavago, who was a NZ$60,000 purchase at the 2014 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Cambridge Stud, took his record to 3 wins (including the Gr3 Wellington Stakes) and 2 placings from 7 starts for $1,395,955 earnings. From the unraced Zabeel mare Sara Ann, Tavago hails from the outstanding Gay Poss family of champion sprinter Lankan Rupee, Victoria Derby winning stallion Grosvenor, Australian Oaks winner Mahaya, and her half-sister Shadea, the dam of champion racehorse and stallion Lonhro.
