At Royal Randwick in Sydney, former Arrowfield Stud and now Geisel Park Stud-based Gr1 Emirates Stakes winning stallion All American (Red Ransom-Milva, by Strawberry Road) celebrated an elite success when 3YO filly Yankee Rose (All American-Condesaar, by Xaar) scored a fast-finishing 0.5 length win for trainer David Vandyke in the $500,000 Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) for 3YOs, over 3YO colts Swear (Redoute's Choice-Crossyourheart, by Show a Heart) & Prized Icon (More Than Ready-Tropical Affair, by Danehill). This was an historic victory for Yankee Rose who became the first filly to win the Spring Champion since its inaugural running in 1971. The prodigiously talented filly improved her record to 4 wins (including the Gr1 ATC Sires' Produce Stakes) and 2 placings (the Gr1 ATC Golden Slipper & Gr1 ATC Flight Stakes) from 7 starts for $1,922,700 earnings. Yankee Rose is now expected to make her Melbourne debut when she lines up in the Gr1 WS Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley in two weeks time (22 October). "This filly has never done as well going into a race. I couldn't fault her. If she ran out the 2000 metres today I was confident she would win," Vandyke told Sky Racing. "She was so comfortable out there today and looked so good when she stretched out, I just can't wait to get down to Melbourne in two weeks time." Purchased for just $10,000 by Darby Racing at the 2015 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the draft of Widden Stud, Yankee Rose is out of half-sister to New Zealand Derby winner Redoute's Dancer and hails from the prolific Classic-producing family of Yorkshire Oaks winner Condessa, Irish Oaks winner Silken Glider and English Oaks winner Godiva.
