At Flemington in Melbourne, US Gr1-winning Emirates Park shuttler Artie Schiller (El Prado-Hidden Light, by Majestic Light) celebrated an elite success when 3YO colt Flying Artie (Artie Schiller-Flying Ruby, by Rubiton) scored by 1.25 lengths for trainer Mick Price in the $500,000 Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) for 3YOs, over fellow 3YO colts Astern (Medaglia d'Oro-Essaouira, by Exceed and Excel) & Star Turn (Star Witness-Golden Delicious, by Made of Gold). Flying Artie, who has always looked a potential top-class colt having been placed as a juvenile in the Gr1 Golden Slipper & Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes, improved his record to 3 wins (including the Gr3 Blue Sapphire Stakes & Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude for colts & geldings) and 3 placings (including the Gr1 Golden Slipper & Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes) from 6 starts for $1,259,000 earnings. From the stakes winning Rubiton mare Flying Ruby, Flying Artie was a $50,000 purchase at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Goodwood Farm. Trainer Mick Price has resisted the temptation of backing Flying Artie up in next week's Gr1 Darley Classic saying he and stable-mate Extreme Choice will instead be sent for a spell. "I'm conscious of the fact they [Extreme Choice and Flying Artie] are both spring three-year-olds, and still developing," Price told "They're both going to the paddock."
