At Riccarton in New Zealand, Inglewood Stud's beautifully bred Gr2-winning & Gr1-placed stallion Zacinto (Dansili-Itacha, by Distant View) celebrated an elite success when 3YO gelding Ugo Foscolo (Zacinto-Bequests, by Stravinsky) scored by 1.25 lengths for trainer Stephen Marsh in the 44th running of the NZ$400,000 Gr1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) for 3YOs, over 3YO colts Savile Row (Makfi-Fleece, by Daylami) & Heroic Valour (Fastnet Rock-Myrrh, by Nassipour). Ugo Foscolo stamped himself as the best 3YO in New Zealand with this maiden top-flight victory that advanced his record to 5 wins (including the Gr2 James & Annie Sarten Memorial Stakes) from 6 starts for NZ$348,125 earnings. "He was very brave and there may have been a doubt about the mile, but we had him very fit and he ran it out," trainer Stephen Marsh told NZ Racing Desk. Under regular rider Michael Coleman, Ugo Foscolo travelled strongly in front and hit top gear 300 metres from home to surge clear. "I said to Michael to go forward, that's the way to ride him," Marsh said. "He got the job done and I'm very proud of him." Carrying the same distinctive lime green silks as star mare Lucia Valentina on behalf of owner Lib Petagna, Ugo Foscolo was a NZ$50,000 purchase by Bruce Perry Bloodstock at the 2015 NZB Select Yearling Sale from the draft of Inglewood Stud.
