At Trentham in New Zealand, Waikato Stud's Cox Plate winning stallion Savabeel (Zabeel-Savannah Success, by Success Express) celebrated an elite success when 3YO colt Hall Of Fame (Savabeel-Around the Clock, by Galileo) scored by a nose for trainers Stephen Autridge & Jamie Richards in the NZ$225,000 Gr1 Levin Classic (1600m) for 3YOs, over fellow 3YO colts Savile Row (Makfi-Fleece, by Daylami) & Jon Snow (Iffraaj-Orinda, by O'Reilly). Hall Of Fame, originally a $100,000 Inglis Easter Sale purchase before being successfully pinhooked by Lyndhurst Farm, and then bought by David Ellis' Te Akau Racing for $230,000 at last year's NZB Ready To Run Sale of 2YOs, improved his record to 5 wins (including the Listed Canterbury Stakes) and 2 placings from 9 starts for NZ$232,200 earnings. From the Galileo mare Around The Clock, Hall Of Fame hails from the famous Leica family of Victoria Derby winners Nothin' Leica Dane and Redding, New Zealand Derby winner Leica Guv, Gr1 Australian Guineas winner Light Fantastic, Australian Derby winner Leica Lover, and Australian Oaks winner Leica Smile. Hall Of Fame put aside the disappointment of his 10th place finish in the Gr1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas in November. "He's always showed plenty of ability, but he'd had enough then and we gave him a break and he's come back better than ever," co-trainer Stephen Autridge told NZ Racing Desk. "It's great for Savabeel and it's great for Te Akau, we're absolutely rapt."
