At Flemington in Victoria, 6YO UK-bred gelding Redkirk Warrior (Notnowcato-Flag, by Selkirk) posted a top shelf success in scoring by a comfortable 2-lengths for trainers David & Ben Hayes & Tom Dabernig in the $1,255,000 Gr1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) over fellow 6YO gelding Voodoo Lad (I Am Invincible-O’Fortuna, by Gilded Time) & 4YO colt Star Turn (Star Witness-Golden Delicious, by Made of Gold). The former Gr1-placed Hong Kong galloper improved his record to 5 wins (including the Gr3 Sandown Stakes) and 2 placings (including the Gr1 Hong Kong Classic Cup) from 10 starts for $1,392,080 earnings. Redkirk Warrior became the first horse ever to win the Gr1 Newmarket Handicap first-up from a spell in what was an amazing training performance. The first running of the race was in 1892 when Wild Rose saluted. Redkirk Warrior was a £22,000 yearling from the Tattersalls 2012 Yearling Sale from the draft of Manor House Stud.
