At Caulfield in Melbourne, Bowness Stud's Gr1-winning stallion Bon Hoffa (Belong To Me-Asian Reef, by Manilla) celebrated an elite success when 4YO entire Bon Aurum (Bon Hoffa-Goldsmobile, by Promontory Gold) scored by 0.4 length for trainer Ciaron Maher in the $500,000 Gr1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) for 3YOs, over 5YO gelding Voodoo Lad (I Am Invincible-O'Fortuna, by Gilded Time) & 6YO gelding Fast 'N' Rocking (Fastnet Rock-For the Good Times, by Hennessy). Bon Aurum improved his record to 5 wins (including the Gr3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude & Listed The Sofitel) and 3 placings from 13 starts for $586,550 earnings. "This horse has taken a lot of work so it is a testament to the great work of my team," trainer Ciaron Maher told racing.com. "It's great to win a Group One with him." Maher said Bon Aurum would bid to double his Gr1 tally in the Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield on 8 October. "I'm not sure if he runs a strong mile but he is in a rich vein of form and he is still on the way up so its a good time to find out," he said.
